Bumblefoot Treatment

Here is our experience of what has helped our girls recover from bumblefoot.

Epsom Salt Bath (Don't let them drink the water)

Neosporin without pain relief to help with the infection

Preparation H to help with swelling

Separate from others and provide a clean and dry space for recovery

Supplements with oregano oil (Durastat with Oregano or Healthy Hen Power Hen)

If there are no improvements then we use an ichthammol drawing salve to pull the infection out.

If the infection is still present then surgery is required which we had to do on two of our three ducks with bumblefoot. We then applied Blu-Kote for the open wound and the topical treatment listed above. As a precaution, we also started them on Enrofloxacin for five days. Just a reminder that any time you give a bird an antibiotic, they will need probiotics. It is also important to check on the egg withdrawal period after treatment has finished.
